With the two key federal voting rights bills – the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act - stalled in the Senate, the fight for setting a national standard must continue.
Civil rights and advocacy groups are working round the clock to continue to apply pressure and ring the alarm on this issue. After more than a year of demonstrating, our leaders have yet to show they care deeply about protecting our voting rights.
That’s why Black Voters Matter is mobilizing partners from across the nation in an effort to obtain signatures from one million voters on a petition for voting rights.
Our elected officials have shown us that demonstrations, corporate and political pressure, and a deluge of media are not enough to get our demands answered. With one million signatures, we plan to show Congress that the American people want our rights protected – and we’re done waiting.
