#ComunidadImunidadWV

Are you up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines?
People ages 5+ are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. To stay up to date, individuals first need a primary series. The primary series is the initial set of shots that teach the body to recognize and fight the virus. People ages 12+ are also recommended to get a single booster shot. This another shot that helps the body build up maximum protection when immunity from the primary series starts to fade.
Some people may also get a second booster shot of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) at least four months after the first booster shot, including those who are:

Vaccine Fact
What many people experience as a result of receiving the vaccine aren’t side effects, but rather the body’s immune system responding to the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccines work with your immune system so it will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed. Common immune responses are short-term injection site pain, swelling or redness, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, chills or fever. Learn more at: bit.ly/3jmo7Hk #CommunityImmunityWV

How do the COVID-19 vaccines work?
The #COVID19 vaccines work by enabling the body’s immune system to build antibodies to recognize and fight the virus. The vaccines teach our cells how to recognize the spike protein of the virus that causes COVID-19 and activate an immune response to fight it off. This means that the COVID-19 vaccines cannot affect or interact with our DNA in any way. #CommunityImmunityWV
How have the COVID-19 vaccines been developed so quickly?
These vaccines resulted from a coordinated, global effort to fight #COVID19. Building on prior science, the vaccine research and development, clinical trials, manufacturing, and distribution planning occurred at the same time. This approach removed delays that occur when these processes happen one after the other. Steps to ensure safety were not eliminated. Learn more at: bit.ly/3jmo7Hk #CommunityImmunityWV

How do the COVID-19 vaccines work?

People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or want to become pregnant are recommended to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Studies show that COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy protects not only the pregnant person but the baby as well. Staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccination continues to provide safety and protection against COVID-19 to the parent and child during the child’s infancy.
Plus, COVID-19 vaccines are safe to get at the same time as other vaccines, such as the flu shot or Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis/whooping cough).
