Depending on which mRNA vaccine you receive, a second dose is needed 3-4 weeks after your first dose to get the most protection the vaccine has to offer against this serious disease. A 3rd dose of COVID mRNA vaccines is now recommended for immunocompromised people ages 12+. If you’re moderately or severely immunocompromised and you’ve been vaccinated with the two-dose series of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, you should get a third dose of whichever mRNA vaccine you originally received.
