COVID-19 vaccine booster doses are  recommended for most people.

#COVID19 vaccine booster shots are recommended to continue to provide maximum protection. To stay up to date, West Virginians ages 12 and older are recommended to get a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot when due. The following groups may also get a second booster shot of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) at least four months after the first booster shot: • People ages 50+ who are 4 months or more from receiving their first booster shot, • Individuals ages 12+ with serious and chronic health conditions that lead to being considered moderately to severely immunocompromised, and • People ages 18-49 who are not immunocompromised and who received their primary series shot and their booster shot using the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for both. At this time, Pfizer is the only COVID-19 vaccine authorized for 12-17 year olds. Those 18+ can get any type of COVID-19 vaccine (J&J, Pfizer, or Moderna) as a booster, even if they had a different type of COVID-19 vaccine previously, but the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) are preferred.
