In an age of distrust of information, unfounded conspiracies, myths, rumors and statistics can cloud our understanding of human trafficking. As human trafficking can be difficult to detect, false information can make identifying cases difficult. Additionally, it can divert attention and resources from survivors and derail education efforts. Awareness-raising is a key strategy to ending human trafficking, by shaping our understanding to support us in identifying cases, as well as challenging harmful societal norms that perpetuate it.
LifeWay is unique in that it is the only organization in the metro NYC area to offer long-term safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking in all its forms (i.e. sex, labor, and organ trafficking). Studies show that it can take 10+ years for survivors to start to feel like their healing process has begun when they are not connected to the right resources.
Shed Light on Human Trafficking is a month-long awareness campaign in January. LifeWay will share statistics, debunk myths and rumors, and shed light on the critical role service provision organizations play after their compelling trafficking situation through blog posts, social media, a Lunch & Learn webinar, and take action opportunities. Join us and #ShedLightHT!
